Basic Info:
My name is Nico Erni, born in 1979 in Switzerland. I emigrated to Auroville in south India with my Mother when I was 15 years old and that is where I got introduced to surfing by a couple of pioneers here. Back in those days Surfboards were extremely rare and difficult to get in India. So together with my buddies we had to learn to repair boards and sometimes buying a broken board and fixing it was the only option to get one. This paved the way for me to become a surfboard shaper.
My journey as a surfboard shaper:
It all started in late 2012 when I started the successful surfboard company www.indisurfboards.com together with my long time friend Samai Reboul. In my time at Indi as a co-founder, manager, shaper, glasser, sander and social media editor I learned a lot apart from making surfboards, but most importantly: My surfboards got well known for their quality by helping surfers win titles on them in National and International surfing events. Through my drive and passion for the craft I also developed different construction methods and techniques which played a key role in making Indi Surfboards what it is today and the surfboards I shaped have traveled as far as New Zealand and Brazil in the hands of happy customers.
Now:
It was a big decision, but the time has come for me to continue my journey under my own brand: ERNI Surfboards.
